Shade, Privacy, and Usable Space

Decks level out sloped yards and connect the house to the garden. Pergolas and patio covers make a hot patio usable on summer afternoons. Fences and screens add privacy. We design them to fit your home and the rest of the yard, then build them with our own crew.

Decks

Redwood decks for dining, lounging, hot tubs, and sloped lots.

Pergolas & Arbors

Open-rafter shade structures, arbors, and swing arbors.

Patio Covers

Solid covers for year-round shade and rain protection.

Fences & Gates

Wood and hog wire fences, gates, and privacy screens.

Built-Ins

Custom benches, planters, and railings that finish the space.

Prewire for Lighting

Wiring planned in so lights and fans can be added cleanly.

How We Build Decks and Structures

Wood is a natural material that moves, checks, and weathers, so the framing, hardware, and details matter.

  • Select grade or better redwood for visible deck boards
  • Pressure-treated Douglas fir under-framing, with supports spaced about 3 feet or closer
  • Galvanized hardware, and deck boards screwed down
  • Redwood safety railing on decks more than 18 inches above the ground

See all of our construction standards on our How We Build page.

Questions

Deck & Structure FAQs

Do decks and pergolas need permits?

Many raised decks, attached structures, and patio covers need a permit. It depends on size, height, and your city. Permits are usually additional, and we can help with the process.

Redwood or composite?

Redwood has a natural look and lower upfront cost but needs resealing every 1 to 3 years. Composite costs more and needs less upkeep, but can scratch.

Is sealing or staining included?

Sealing and staining are additional unless your proposal includes them.

What warranty do structures have?

Decks and structures carry a 2-year warranty. Natural wood checking, cracking, and fading are normal and not covered.
